I’m not sure if this photo is from the part of Finland where the Moomins live, but it does look like a rough climate. That gnarled and twisted tree reminds me of the trees in the high Sierra, or near tree line in the White Mountains:  twisted, hunkered down against harsh winds. The frosting of snow gives a sense of that climate challenge.

And on the back:  a moomin at a campfire. What a cheerful image. The moomins, if you don’t know, are fictional characters that resemble hippopotami. They were created by Tove Janssen, a Swedish-speaking Finnish novelist, painter, honorary Professor of Philosophy, illustrator, and comic strip author. She lived from 1914 to 2001.

I’ve ordered a couple of the Moomin books from Amazon. They have been translated into many languages, including English. Stay tuned for more Moomin news.
