The Arts of Islam

September 18, 2010

What a complicated world we live in. People threatening to burn books they have never read. It’s remarkable, but the postcrossing, and various postcard swapping activities around the world, help people meet people on a one-to-one basis.

I enjoyed a recent picture of a street scene in Iran. How like a street scene here in America. And, today I received this image, a detail from the Khalili Fainamah (“Book of Divination”), circa 1610-30. What splendid colors and detail!

The stamp has a simple elegance to it, as well… The sender shares a quote from Mother Teresa:  “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.”

Amen to that.
